Beyond Photography

When people first land on my blog, they might expect to see a steady stream of photography tips, behind-the-scenes glimpses of shoots, and maybe a few discussions on lighting or camera settings. And sure, those things do show up from time to time. But if you stick around, you’ll quickly realize that my blog is about so much more than just photography.

Because my life? My work? It’s about more than just photography, too.

I’ve spent years capturing moments—intimate, powerful, fleeting moments of love, of family, of people pouring their heart and soul into their businesses. But the longer I do this, the more I understand that what I truly capture isn’t just an image. It’s a story. A feeling. A moment of truth. And those moments don’t exist in a vacuum—they are shaped by our experiences, our struggles, our triumphs, and the messy, beautiful realities of our lives.

So when I sit down to write, I don’t just want to talk about the best time of day to shoot or the importance of brand imagery. I want to talk about what it feels like to juggle motherhood and business. I want to talk about the exhaustion of fighting for a system that actually supports neurodiverse children, about the sometimes hard managing of co-parenting and doing it in a way that allows my kids to have the healthy, fulfilling relationships they deserve. I want to talk about the journey of building something from the ground up—the doubt, the overwhelm, the victories that feel small but are actually monumental.

Because photography isn’t separate from my life—it’s woven into it. It’s shaped by the things I’ve learned through every stage of this journey.

Before I was a photographer, I worked in the care and protection of children, helping families navigate separation in a way that didn’t tear them apart but helped them redefine what family could look like. I have a psychology degree that has given me a deep understanding of people—their emotions, their struggles, the way they show up in the world. I’m one of the co-founders of a charitable group that supports women in business because I know first hand how lonely and overwhelming that journey can be.

And I am a mother. A mother of teenagers, one of whom is neurodiverse, and homeschooling him because the education system isn’t built for kids like him. A mother who has fought, and continues to fight, for the right kind of support. A mother who is co-parenting with an ex because no matter what happened between us, our children deserve stability, love, and a sense of self that isn’t torn in two.

I write about all of this because I know I’m not alone. Because I know there are other parents navigating these same battles, other business owners wondering if they should just give up, other women trying to figure out how to hold it all together while the world outside feels like a dumpster fire.

And if something I’ve learned—some hard-won lesson from my own messy, complicated, beautiful life—can help even one person feel seen, feel less alone, feel like they can take a deep breath and keep going? Then that’s worth sharing.

So no, this blog isn’t just about photography. It’s about life. It’s about showing up, telling stories, and capturing the real, raw, breathtaking moments—whether through words or images—that remind us of who we are and why we keep going.

If you’re here for that, I’m glad. Let’s keep going together.
